PLANTS TRADE: A New Dimension in Botanical Artistry

Concept Book and Poster by Tsuyoshi Omori Wins Silver in A' Design Award

PLANTS TRADE, a unique and innovative botanical specimen series by Tsuyoshi Omori, redefines the relationship between humans and nature. This article explores the concept book and poster that accompany this award-winning project.

PLANTS TRADE is not your typical botanical specimen collection. Conceived by Tsuyoshi Omori, this series aims to foster a deeper connection between humans and nature. The concept book and poster, designed to complement the series, are as unique and innovative as the specimens themselves. The concept book, designed to the exact dimensions of the botanical specimens, features not only photographs of nature but also unique graphics inspired by nature's wisdom.

What sets this concept book apart is the printing technique. The graphics are printed using letterpress, a method that allows each image to vary in color and texture, much like natural plants. This attention to detail and commitment to authenticity is a testament to Omori's dedication to his craft. The cover of the concept book is made from white cardboard and features foil printing, while the interior uses offset printing for the photographs and letterpress for the graphics.

The poster, like the concept book, uses offset printing for the photograph and letterpress for the graphic. Measuring 505 x 728 mm, the poster is a large-scale representation of the PLANTS TRADE project, showcasing the unique botanical specimens in all their glory.

The PLANTS TRADE project began on September 9th, 2017, in Tokyo, and is still ongoing. The concept book was published in Japan and has been exhibited at various events, including the Tokyo Art Book Fair in October 2017, Shibuya Publishing & Booksellers in August 2018, and Kamome Books in September 2018.

PLANTS TRADE is not just a botanical specimen series; it's a testament to the beauty and wisdom of nature. Through this project, Omori hopes to inspire people to appreciate the natural world and understand the unspoken messages from plants. The concept book and poster are not just educational materials; they are artistic expressions of nature's wisdom.

PLANTS TRADE's unique approach to botanical specimens has not gone unnoticed. The project was awarded the Silver in A' Graphics, Illustration and Visual Communication Design Award in 2019, a prestigious accolade that recognizes top-of-the-line, creative, and professionally remarkable designs. This award is a testament to Omori's innovative approach and his commitment to fostering a better relationship between humans and nature.
